Azy the orangutan turned 30 Today.

Scientist Robert Shumaker was there to help Azy mark the milestone at Great Ape Trust of Iowa, just as he was with Azy in 1983 when the orangutan, then 6, nestled into the arms of the 19-year-old Shumaker, then a volunteer at National Zoo in Washington, D.C.
“We had a little party,” Shumaker said of Azy’s birthday celebration. “I was pleased to find a good watermelon at the store, and Azy, Knobi and Allie had that, a couple bottles of seltzer water and some vegetable chips like carrots.”
