The King is dead, long live the King

A 10-year-old macaque that had ruled over a group of monkeys for four years at a zoo in Jilin, Jilin Province, died of the blues days after a coup deprived him of his throne.

Several days ago, a strong young male macaque attacked the aging monkey as he slept.

"During the ensuing tussle, the old king was forced to abdicate his throne in the young monkey's favor," Zhang, a zookeeper, said.

"In the following days, the old monkey was so depressed that he refused to eat or drink anything and eventually starved to death," he said.
