The beautiful game
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- A soccer referee in Malaysia resorted to pulling a gun when a game became unruly after he ejected one player from the field.
The New Straits Times said the game official, who also is a police officer, ran to his car to get his gun when players mobbed him for showing the red card to one of them. He fired warning shots in the air.
The newspaper said the referee was taken into custody for suspected misuse of firearms. Five players, ages 23 to 40, were being held for questioning and could be charged with rioting.
