GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Prosecutors say an inmate at the Kent County Jail was beaten to death by a cellmate who was incensed that someone had stolen his snack cake.
A trial for 19-year-old Benny Lee Rochelle is under way.
He faces charges of second-degree murder and assault in the death of 46-year-old Jose Estrada.
The prosecution says Rochelle dragged Estrada from the top bunk of his bed after discovering that his snack cake was missing. It says Estrada was sent crashing headfirst onto the concrete floor of the jail cell the men shared.
Estrada died at a hospital two days after leaving jail in November 2006. [source]
