Betcha he doesn't make that mistake again
IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man faces up to a year in jail after he allegedly complained to police his gambling competitor robbed him of his illegal earnings.
Ricky Lee Jones, 53, of 2401 Highway 6 East 1009, was charged with fourth-degree illegal game betting, a serious misdemeanor. He was arrested at 6:37 p.m. Friday during a traffic stop. He was released from the Johnson County Jail on his own recognizance.
According to the police complaint, Jones was shooting dice with Beauhanan D. Walker, 23, on Dec. 27 at Broadway Street and Cross Park Avenue. Jones apparently got mad at Walker during the game, and Walker allegedly grabbed the money being wagered and ran off. Jones then called police because "he wanted his portion of the winnings," according to the complaint.
Walker was arrested on the same charge at 3 a.m. Dec. 28. The police complaint stated two officers spent two hours investigating the case on Dec. 27.
